Hope

This world in which we live offers many things, but it does not offer hope. Sorrow, pain, disease and death knock on every door. Heartaches, disappointments and despair visit every home. Victories never last and joy is but for a fleeting moment. New things become stale and bright things become faded. The Bible says, "For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:" (I Peter 1:24).

The word HOPE is used in scripture with the following meaning: confidence in a future event; the highest degree of well founded expectation of good. Christ’s return is referred to as “the blessed hope”. (Titus 2:13)

For Christians our hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ. In Him we have eternal life. Through the power of His resurrection we know that everlasting life that is abundant awaits us beyond the grave. Job was looking forward to life after death when he said, "Though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God."

When anyone, by faith, trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, he receives the certainty of this wonderful hope. The Bible says he is "passed from death unto life" (John 5:24). Jesus Christ firmly stated, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:" (John 11:25).

Though Christians suffer all of this world's trials and pains, our comfort in time of trouble is the knowledge of this great hope, "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast," (Hebrews 6:19).
