Rewards
Service is something God expects of all believers. As an incentive to service, God promises to reward Christians for their faithfulness. An incentive is something that motivates, encourages and moves us to action. Some key rewards in the Scriptures are in the form of crowns. Here is a brief summary of those crowns.
The Crown of Righteousness – this is for those looking for the return of Christ. (…a crown of righteousness…give…all them also that love his appearing – I Timothy 4:8; … Even so, come, Lord Jesus – Revelation 22:20)
The Crown of Life – this is for those who resist temptation or are martyred for the faith. …endureth temptation…he shall receive the crown of life – James 1:12; …be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life – Revelation 2:10)
The Incorruptible Crown – this is for temperance, discipline and self-control. The Apostle Paul pictured the Christian life as an athlete in training. (…they which run in a race run all…So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible – I Corinthians 9:24, 25; Hebrews 12:2)
The Crown of Glory – this is for those faithful in feeding the flock. (The elders …Feed the flock of God…ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
I Peter 5:1-4)
The Crown of Rejoicing – this is for those who win souls. (…crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? – I Thessalonians 2:19)
Leading a soul to Christ produces joy in heaven (Luke 15:7), provides treasure in heaven (Matthew 6:21) and it places your affections in the right place, in heaven. (Colossians 3:2)
